Business Analyst in Johannesburg: Job Description

Business requirement identification and analysis

  • Deliver business analysis activities and outputs across all of the business analysis knowledge areas Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation and Collaboration, Requirements Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirements Analysis and Design Definition, and Solution Evaluation
  • Analyse elicitation results and create representation of the results
  • Lead Design Thinking sessions through Problem Definition, Research & Requirements gathering, Ideation
  • Facilitate early-stage workshops and JAD sessions with stakeholders to understand their needs, analyse and elicit requirements
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, and distinguish requirements / requests from the underlying true needs
  • Model the business and IT domain
  • Review business processes and procedures, analyse business needs and related data, determine possible solutions, and define requirements
  • Elaborate scope of solutions with technical teams
  • Provide input into training courses that support implementation
  • Configure complex business processes and tasks within a system for improvement
  • Input into identifying ways to fine tune systems in line with changing work practices
  • Review technical specifications to ensure user and functional requirements are met
  • Prepare formal business processes
  • Track and analyse activities and trends. Compare analyses against service standards and best practices, and make appropriate
  • Identify Business Improvement and Optimisation opportunities within the assigned part of the value stream that will result in improvement of
  • process performance and ultimately in organizations SA results
  • Assist with benchmarking activities with other companies and organizations within and outside the industry

Problem Solving / Solution Design

  • Design and document business solutions (process, system and measurements) that meet current and future requirements
  • Define and construct context diagrams which form part of the basis of process mapping
  • Assist in drafting policies, processes and procedures
  • Evaluate situations and determine the best methods to reach defined outcomes
  • Address problems on a case by case basis, ensuring an optimal balance between the response to the situation, the cost of that response, and
  • the core purpose of the organisation
  • Follow clear and linear procedures to diagnose and solve problems that are not always obvious
  • Provide information and knowledge as required to resolve problems
  • Generate different options for the known problem, evaluate possible methods to resolve the problem, and select the most appropriate solution
  • Tailor solutions to suit the problem (within defined parameters)
  • Make use of available resources to solve the problem


  • Conduct research relating to organizations business and systems, in particular for the assigned part of the value stream
  • Sort, accumulate and analyse information from external sources to assist with problem solving
  • Assist in identifying and assessing market trends, taking local conditions into consideration

Quality Management

  • Accurately assess the risks associated with each customer experience process
  • Establish and maintain quality standards that will enhance the customer experience and cost efficiency
  • Work consistently according to standard operating procedures
  • Identify processes and procedures where the quality of work may be improved
  • Analyse situations and take necessary action to ensure quality is maintained
  • Positive feedback from the senior business analyst or project manager/owner/sponsor at project close-out
  • Applies learnings from communities of practice, showing improved use of business analysis methodology in work practices
  • Work meets defined time and quality standards set

Business Analyst in Johannesburg: Education & Training requirements

  • Minimum 3 year degree/diploma in relevant discipline
  • Diploma in Business Analysis
  • Certification in Design Thinking and Requirements Facilitation
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience –
  • Minimum 5 years’ business analysis in solution development lifecycle projects/programmes using BABOK methodology
  • Working in software or systems development
  • Working in a medium organization
